The place, plainly

A beach village in the middle of the Mijas coast, with the hills and a golf valley behind it.

La Cala de Mijas is the beach village in the middle of the Mijas coast, between El Chaparral to the east and Torrenueva, Riviera del Sol and Calahonda to the west. Behind it the land climbs to the hillside urbanisations around the Calanova and La Noria golf courses, then runs inland past Lagar Martel to the La Cala Golf resort at Entrerríos. Idealista prices the village at €4,613/m², the most in Mijas, and lists the golf valley as a district of its own at €3,505/m².

Thirteen of the developments on this site are here, as many as in Las Lagunas. Two are near the sea, at Torrenueva and on the edge of the village, four are on the hills above it, and seven are inland around La Cala Golf, Lagar Martel and Entrerríos, which is where most of the houses and villas are. Most are a drive from the beach, and two are finished. If you are still choosing between the parts of Mijas, the pueblo, the coast and La Cala are compared in a guide of their own.

What I actually know about La Cala de Mijas

  • La Cala de Mijas asks €4,613/m² (idealista, September 2026), the highest of Mijas’s eleven districts, about a quarter above the municipal average of €3,717/m² and a little above Fuengirola at €4,452/m².
  • Thirteen new developments are on file, with starting prices from €302,000 to €2,795,000 on the developers’ lists in October 2026. Seven are under construction, four are selling before building starts and two are finished.
  • Seven of the thirteen are inland, at La Cala Golf, Lagar Martel and Entrerríos. Idealista lists the golf valley as a district of its own, La Cala Golf - Lagar Martell, at €3,505/m², about a quarter below the village.
  • La Cala beach and El Bombo beach both hold a Blue Flag for 2026, two of the five Mijas beaches on the official list.
  • La Cala Resort has three golf courses by Cabell B. Robinson, America, Asia and Europa, with a nine-hole par-3 course, a hotel and a spa. Calanova, eighteen holes and par 72, is about five minutes from the village, and La Noria is across the road from Navigolf Suites.
  • La Cala has state schools of its own: the El Olmo and Jardín Botánico primary schools, the El Chaparral primary school at El Limonar, and two secondary schools, IES La Cala de Mijas and IES Torre Almenara.
  • The Andalusian health service has a surgery in La Cala, on Avenida Sierra de las Nieves. Out of hours, Mijas’s urgent care service is at the Las Lagunas health centre, and the public hospital is the Hospital Costa del Sol, on the A-7 at Marbella.
  • The M-220 and M-119 buses run along the coast road through La Cala to Fuengirola, the M-220 on to Marbella, and the M-320 runs to Málaga bus station. The M-223 links Entrerríos, by La Cala Golf, with Las Lagunas. Fuengirola station, at the end of the C-1 line, is 14 to 19 minutes by car from the developments that give the time.
  • From the developments here, Málaga airport is 25 to 45 minutes by car, Marbella 20 to 35 and Fuengirola 10 to 24. The beach is 5 to 18 minutes by car from those that give the time.

Before you commit

Worth knowing about La Cala de Mijas.

01

“La Cala” covers three different places.

The village is on the beach, the hillside urbanisations are on the slopes around Calanova and La Noria, and the golf valley runs inland past Lagar Martel to La Cala Golf. Idealista prices the village at €4,613/m² and the golf valley at €3,505/m², a quarter less, and a listing can call all three La Cala. Ask which one before you compare two prices, and look at the map on this page before you look at the floor plans.

02

Most of the new building is a drive from the sand.

Of the thirteen developments, only Arosa at Torrenueva has the beach just below the coast road, and Cala Serena Sun is under two kilometres from it. The others that give a time are 5 to 18 minutes by car. That is the trade for the gardens, the terraces and the space, and part of the reason the golf valley asks a quarter less. If the beach on foot is the point, the resale homes in the village are where to look, and that is a different budget.

03

A discount card is not a membership.

Owners at Solana Village and The Meadows get discounts at the La Cala Golf resort through its Privilege Card, and that is useful. It is not a membership, and a home beside the Europa course gives you the view of it, not a tee time. If golf is the reason you are coming, price the club’s own terms separately and read them before you reserve.

04

Cranes for a few years yet.

Seven developments are under construction and four are selling before building starts, with handover dates from late 2026 at The Meadows and La Cala Valley to the end of 2028 at Arosa and Cala Serena Sun. Bahía and Navigolf Suites are the two finished, and the place to start if you want a date you can plan around. Off plan, every stage payment should be covered by a bank guarantee, and I check that it is before you pay.

05

The quick road to the airport has a toll.

The AP-7 toll road passes close to La Cala, and its main toll plaza is at Calahonda: €5.70 for a car in 2026, and €9.25 from June to September and for seventeen days around Easter. The A-7 coast road is free. On a weekly airport run the difference adds up, so I count it in when we compare the drive times on this page with a home closer to Málaga.

06

Read the price per metre with care.

The idealista figure is what sellers of resale homes are asking. The new-build figures are the developers’ own list prices, and the houses in the golf valley work out under €2,900 a metre, partly because the built area at Residencial Cala de Mijas and Cala Golf counts the basement. A one bedroom apartment at Arosa is over €10,000 a metre. Compare homes on the rooms you will actually live in, and on the last sold prices nearby, which is the number I go and find.

The arithmetic

What it costs, and what it costs to hold

La Cala de Mijas asks €4,613/m² as of September 2026, the top of Mijas’s eleven districts, about a quarter above the municipal average and a little above Fuengirola at €4,452/m². The golf valley behind it asks €3,505/m². The apartment developments on file start between €302,000 at Cala Swing and €705,000 at Arosa, the townhouses and semi-detached villas between €562,800 and €955,000, and Tree Villas at €2,795,000. On the cheapest home in each, the new building works out between €2,735 and €10,330 per square metre.

A new build pays 10% VAT and 1.2% stamp duty on top of the price, plus notary, registry and your lawyer, so plan for 12 to 14% in all. A resale pays 7% transfer tax instead, about 10 to 11% in all. Then the annual side: IBI to Mijas town hall, rubbish collection and the community fee. None of the developers’ documents on file gives a community charge yet, and several of these developments sit inside the La Cala Golf resort or run a spa or a residents’ shuttle, so ask for the budget in writing before you reserve.

€/m² figures are idealista asking prices for September 2026, the same source as the town table used across the rest of this site. New-build starting prices and €/m² are from the developers’ lists on file in October 2026, before VAT, cheapest home in each development.

In context

Where it sits inside Mijas.

Idealista splits Mijas into eleven districts, and La Cala de Mijas is at the top of them. The golf valley behind the village has a line of its own, a quarter lower, and that gap is the most useful number on this page. This is the whole table for September 2026, with Fuengirola underneath.

La Cala de MijasThis district: the beach village, its hills and the top price in Mijas.€4,613

The La Cala Golf line is the one to hold this page against. It carries the same name, its new developments are 5 to 18 minutes from the beach by car, and it asks €1,108 less per square metre. If the beach on foot is not the point, the golf valley is where most of the new houses with gardens are, and where the price per metre drops by a quarter.

How far is the nearest golf course from the new builds in La Cala de Mijas?

Working for the buyer

Looking for a buyer’s agent in La Cala de Mijas?

That is what I do. I’m Michael from Lunessa Homes — a British buyer’s agent living in Málaga, fluent in Spanish, working on the buyer’s side of the search. One client at a time, and La Cala de Mijas sits inside the stretch of coast I cover, Estepona to Nerja.

  • Viewings you don’t have to fly for. I walk La Cala de Mijas myself and report back straight — including the places that aren’t worth your trip.
  • A price sense you can hold me to. La Cala de Mijas · Sep 2026 €/m² is €4,613. When an asking price ignores that, I’ll tell you.
  • Local, not general. 5–18 min to the beach by car — the kind of detail that decides a street, and only shows up on the ground.
  • The parts that trip people up. The NIE, the lawyer, the bank, the paperwork in Spanish — handled alongside the search, not left to you afterwards.
